I'm getting married in 2011 and we're starting to look at venues now. Nothing is really exciting me, do you have any ideas for somewhere a bit unusual? Zoe, by email

You can find some really quirky places to have your reception these days — my favourite has to be the London Aquarium! Imagine having sharks swimming alongside you as you and your guests eat you dinner! Visit www.sealife.co.uk/london for more info.
When do I send out my gift list cards? I’m not sure if it is appropriate to insert them into our invitations; should we wait for our guests to ask us if we have a gift list first?
Sara Boyle, Lincoln

Gift lists are usually sent inside your invitations, about three to six months before your wedding. It’s common practice these days so I wouldn’t worry about seeming rude! It is actually helpful for guests to receive a gift list, as they’ll know they’re choosing a present you actually want. Sending them out with your invites means that everything is kept together, people have plenty of time to buy the gifts, and it’ll save you postage costs too!
I love the bouquet on the cover of issue 22 of Perfect Wedding. Can you tell me what flowers and foliage are in it?
Michelle Randall.

I love this bouquet too! The flowers were by florist Cindy Kirkland (www.ckworks.net). The roses in it are cream Vendela, Amnesia and pink Astilbe.
My theme is silver and pink and my venue has a red and gold carpet, red chairs and baroque paintings. What can I do?

I would concentrate your efforts on your table settings. The red chairs can be covered in white chair covers and wrapped with a silver or pink sash, and the tables and chairs will cover up the majority of the carpet. Use crisp white linen and add pink and silver to your table centres and place settings. Candlelight will detract attention away from the paintings.
Can you help me find a 60s-style swing band? I’m having a retro wedding and can’t find a band that suits the theme.

The Long Band is a fabulous swing band specialising in swing repertoire. They play all the classic Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr and Tony Bennett classics and you can be sure that the band will get all your guests up on the dance floor. For more information and to make a booking, call them on 020 8209 3430.
We decided early on that we wanted a black and red theme and have purchased black bridesmaids' dresses with red sashes and ordered red and black cake and invitations. Someone has now said that these colours are depressing and now I'm wondering if I've made the right choice. Should we change it? It would mean an awful lot of hassle. Yvonne Ferguson, Glasgow

There is no reason why this colour needs to be overbearing. Perhaps now that you have co-ordinated the key components, ensure that the rest of the styling is both simple and complementary. Go for white or ivory table linen and tableware and have simple flowers such as red roses. Don't indulge too much in overstyling or it could ruin the look. I think you should have confidence in your own choices and not let others undermine you with their own agendas.
Can you think of any unusual ways of naming tables and displaying the table names? I want to make my wedding different.
Bronwen, Llanelli

Do you share a common hobby or sport? Have you travelled widely? Are you food, music or theatre fans? Think of something you both enjoy that holds special significance. You could consider naming your tables after teams, sportsmen and women, singers or bands. Your theme must be clear to guests and the waiting staff. If the theme is music, you could print names onto CDs and for travel, print tickets that match the destinations.
QWe’d like gifts of money to put towards our honeymoon but I don’t know how to word the request and is it usual to ask in the invites?
Jayne, Liverpool

More and more couples are doing this now and it’s perfectly acceptable to ask for money towards your honeymoon. You can either word this yourself on an insert to go with your invites (something like ‘We are lucky enough to have everything we need for our home, but if you would like to buy us a gift we would love you to contribute towards our honeymoon. We have set up a PayPal/bank account for any donation you’d like to make towards our holiday of a lifetime.’
Or, make use of online honeymoon gift lists sites such as www.buy-our-honeymoon.com. For a set-up fee of around £50, you can have your own web page, upload pictures of where you’re going, and guests can make payments on the site. You’ll also be provided with cards to place in your invites.
Hi, where can I find some brightly coloured favours from? I want some splashes of colour on my tables to stop them looking a bit 'bland' and uninteresting…
Hayley, Southampton

There are so many fantastic favours around, especially if you're having a vibrant and colourful theme to your day! I love these soap lollies from Giddy kipper (pictured), and their alphabet hearts, or for try thelastdetail.co.uk for lots of gorgeous favours and decorations. Have fun!
I'm getting married in March next year and I'm looking for candle lanterns for both sides of the drive way up to the venue,. Do you know where I can get some elegant ones without spending a fortune? Gemma

I think that's a lovely idea Gemma - it will look so pretty! Try The Last Detail (thelastdetail.co.uk) - they do a pack of three fireproof paper lanterns with pretty butterfly silhouettes for just £4! They'll look so pretty lit up at night.
