How to make the most of your photos, whatever the weather!

Most couples dream of a perfect wedding day usually starts with the sun rising and staying in view all day long with maybe just one or two nice fluffy clouds floating around for effect.  Unfortunately we live in the UK and most couple’s nightmares are regularly delivered on wedding weekends.

So what do you do? The standard advice is to grin and bear it, find that stiff upper lip and get on with it. And they are right, lets face it we can’t control the weather so what else do you do.  The answer to that is simple, you prepare so you can adapt.

Anyone getting married in the winter months in our country has obviously decided the weather is not of any importance to their wedding day, if it’s a nice day then that’s great, if it’s not then that’s just a shame. Most people getting married in the Summer do so because they have a much better chance of a nice day and when on occasion it doesn’t show up their game plans need to adapt.  If the summer brides take a leaf out of the winter brides game book then whatever weather your day brings it will always bring the best out of you.

Locations are not just beautiful on the outside, when you select a venue also cast a mind as to what the photographer could do if they were trapped inside all day. Are there plenty of places that could be utilised or lit to create beautiful pictures?

If you are getting married in the winter bear in mind how early it gets dark and give your photographer a chance to capture some natural light or if needs be ride out some rain to then photograph later in the day by having an earlier ceremony.

Colour code rainwear.  I am often asked by my brides to bring along my brolly as they have seen it in so many of my wedding photographs.  It’s black and white so works brilliantly in black and white shots but with a little thought you could easily have a set of colour coded brollies available for the wedding party that match the brides dress and bridesmaid dress colours. Imagine how stylish your pictures will look if you are all under the same colour umbrellas as opposed to multicoloured golf umbrellas. You can always give them out as presents later on if the sun shines or use them as shade.

Remember too that a very hot summers day can be hard work too, make sure the venue has plenty of shade for the older guests and be aware of how much walking around in the sun you will be doing whilst greeting your guests.

Your photographer will be used to working in all sorts of weather conditions and have specific techniques and solutions for all kinds of eventualities that will still make your wedding pictures special no matter what weather you are greeted with on your wedding morning. By thinking ahead, embracing your day and taking the lead your wedding will be memorable for all the right reasons.
