It's coming up to my 5 year wedding anniversary, so not only am I thinking about weddings when I'm working on the mag, but I've also been thinking back to when I got married. I can't believe it was 5 years ago! Since working on Perfect Wedding, I've seen so many gorgeous themes and ideas, I want to get married again! And again, and again..!
I had a red, white silver theme to my day, with red full-length dresses from Debenhams for my bridesmaids and a wedding dress that was £550 from Alfred Angelo. I loved the sparkly bits all over it and the simplicity of the style. However, if I got married now, being that bit older and a LOT more wise to designers and styles, I probably would've spent that little bit more on my dress, thought about my hair and acessories a bit more, and perhaps chosen bridesmaids dresses from a designer rather than high street. The dresses were lovely, and looked stunning in the photos, but when you buy 'off-the'peg', you'll find that one size 12 is bigger than another size 12, which can cause all sorts of problems! (This has just happened to my best friend, who thought she must have put on loads of weight, but in fact the dresses had been muddled up after the bridesmaids – all 7 of them – had tried them on!) You'll also find that they will be different lengths – tall bridesmaids will end up with half-mast dresses! For more advice on dresses, see our dress section, or the latest issue of Perfect Wedding which is packed with dress ideas and advice…
The other thing I'd do differently is to have a prefessional photographer. We didn't have a lot of money and used a 'friend of a friend' who did them for £250. It rained that day so some of them came out really dark and he only took 36. We didn't have a video of the day either, so if I did it again I'd definitely save up for one! When I see our real-life weddings (again grab the latest issue of PW – we have 10 real-life weddings each month!), I realise that getting great photos is so important as this is your lasting record of the day.
Having said all this, it's easy to look back that bit older and wiser (I was 25 then, I'm now 30!) and say 'oh I'd have chosen purple not red…' and so on, but at the end of the day we had the best day of our lives with all our friends and family and we're still together now, 5 years on!

At the altar… I loved my long veil!

It rained all day, hence I'm holding up my dress!
